The battle for Middle Earth compatibility on Windows 10 Hello, does anyone know if the game series 'The lord of the ring: The battle for Middle Earth ' (the first one and the latest with dlcs) work on Windows 10?

Installation Problems

Like many of the later Sierra games, Lords of the Realm II has installation problems with the installer not fuctioning with faster PCs or under Windows XP/Vista.

Problem - Setup Hangs:
Setup locks up when you run it.

Solution:
Use the New Squrt the Cat Lords of the Realm II Installer by jafa

Audio Problems

Problem - Poor Quality / No Sound (Win9x and XP):
The game has no sound or the music is of poor quality when playing the DOS version.

Solution 1 (preferred):
Play the game in DOSBox. It also will work with the MT-32 sound module, if you are fortunate to have one.

Solution 2:
Use VDMSound. The game work well with VDMSound. The sound will be as good as your audio hardware, and as with DOSBox, it works with the MT-32 sound module.

Solution 3:
Play the game with FreeSCI, a third party Interpreter for Sierra's early SCI games.

Solution 4 (DOS/Win9x):
Install DOS drivers for your soundcard. Without DOS drivers installed you won't have sound in a DOS window in Windows 9x. If you can't find DOS drivers for your soundcard, there is an alpha (developmental) version of VDMS that you can try.

Problem - No Sound:
You hear no sound during game play, This problem arises where your soundcard driver is not compatible with Direct Sound.

Solution 1:
Update your sound card drivers. Your soundcard manufacturer should be able to supply you with up-to-date drivers for your card.

Problem - Constant Clicking Noise:
Sound plays but there is a constant clicking noise in the background. This is a problem appears to happen on some Sound Blaster clones where older soundcard drivers are in use.

Solution 1:
Update your sound card drivers. Your soundcard manufacturer should be able to supply you with up-to-date drivers for your card.

Problem - Battles Crash When Playing With Music OFF:
The battles crash sometimes when playing with Music OFF

Solution 1:
Apply the Lords of the Realm 2 (lotr2103) V1.03 patch.

Game Specific Bugs

There are a couple of bugs that Lords of the Realm II has that are not speed dependent.

Problem - Game Crashes When Playing Movie:
Game Crashes when trying to play the movie at the end of a battle. This happens on PCs where the DirectX supplied with graphics card drivers are not compatible.

Solution:

Turn Full Screen Mode OFF (from the Options Menu in the game.)

Problem - Missing Maps In 'Play Now':
In the 'Play Now' Campaign, every other map seems to be missing.

Solution:

Problem - European Map Crashes:
The map of Europe crashes with some settings from the Custom Game screen

The arrow buttons don't accelerate when trying to buy or sell something.
